Ruins of Sirhind: A Historical Site in Punjab
A long overdue visit to Sirhind heritage sites took me to the prominent Town of twin cities Bassi Pathana and Sirhind . Journey through lovely rural roads takes you through lush vistas to the sites . Google maps is a good guidance but sometimes it takes you through shortcuts via unpaved narrow paths through fields which is not good for the vehicle if you are not a roadie .My suggestion .. choose the metalled roads as all of them take you to the tombs .
Well , most of them are ruins obviously becz built a long time back . ( Can google info ) .Some of them have been preserved by the concerned but most of them are in dilapidated condition. All of them are colonised by big fat yellow wasps …so watch it, don’t try getting closer . Also droppings of birds and bats cover the interiors and surroundings.
Only one tomb has been done up and looks to be in use but most of the times you cannot enter as the entrance has been closed with a metal chain and lock and has huge walls …one can’ not even jump across due to metal spears lining the boundary. Reason …. The drug addicts use these places as their ‘Adda ‘. We came across some shady characters and refrained from going around one of the tombs. Didn’t find any caretaker or a guard anywhere around the tombs . And humorously enuf one tomb has been encroached or acquired officially by some influential land owner as part of his farm but one can cross across the locked gate and large angle- iron restrictors to reach the ancient structure.
