Sirhind Canal in Ropar

Sirhind Canal

The Sirhind Canal, a major irrigation canal in Punjab, primarily draws its water from the Sutlej RiverIt begins at Ropar and irrigates the Malwa region of Punjab, significantly boosting agricultural productivity, particularly for wheat and rice. The canal is one of the oldest and largest irrigation systems in the Indus River basin, having been constructed in 1882 according to Britannica.
While the Sirhind Canal is the most prominent watercourse associated with Sirhind, other rivers like the Beas and Ravi also flow through the Punjab region and contribute to the overall water resources and irrigation systems. The Sutlej, however, remains the primary source for the Sirhind Canal.
