Sirhind is a historic town located in the Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab, India. Once a major city during the Mughal Empire, it held great strategic importance due to its location between Delhi and Lahore. It served as the administrative headquarters of the Mughal province of Sirhind, making it a center of governance and influence.

Sirhind holds immense religious significance, particularly for Sikhs. It is globally known for the martyrdom of the younger Sahibzadas—Sahibzada Zorawar Singh (9 years old) and Sahibzada Fateh Singh (6 years old), the sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. In 1705, they were bricked alive by the Mughal governor Wazir Khan for refusing to convert to Islam. This act of bravery and faith is commemorated at the Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, a sacred site visited by thousands of devotees each year, especially during the Shaheedi Jor Mela held in December.

In 1710, the Sikh warrior Banda Singh Bahadur captured Sirhind and executed Wazir Khan to avenge the martyrdom of the Sahibzadas. This marked a significant moment in Sikh history and established Sirhind as a symbol of resistance and justice.

Historically, Sirhind was renowned for its beautiful gardens, grand mosques, and educational madrasas. It attracted scholars, poets, and travelers from different regions during its cultural peak. Today, Sirhind continues to thrive as a growing town, hosting modern educational institutions, active marketplaces, and maintaining strong rail and road connectivity.

Sirhind stands tall as a proud and sacred landmark, representing the bravery, sacrifice, and spiritual legacy of Punjab. It remains not just a place of historical importance, but a continuing source of inspiration for generations.
